For many Croatians, Christmas begins with Polnoćka, the midnight mass held on Christmas Eve. Churches across the country are beautifully decorated, and communities come together to celebrate the birth of Christ through hymns, prayers, and readings.
The highlight is the singing of traditional Croatian carols (kolende), filling the church with warmth and joy.
Polnoćka is a cherished tradition that reflects the country’s deep Catholic heritage and brings families together in faith and gratitude.
And one last thing - this publication will stay free forever, but if you feel I deserve a cup of matcha 🍵 here and there, then please buy me some - the next drink’s on me! ☕
I was trying to post a picture here of the church. I went to with my parents last night.. it's a small country church and it's absolutely beautiful. The service was amazing with lots of singing.
Their priest has cancer so we don't do a midnight mass anymore because he drives from about 90 minutes away in Jacksonville. It's an Episcopalian church so very very close to the Catholic traditions.
Wish I could share the picture here, but it won't let me.
Merry Christmas to you and your family 🙏
