Ishler cookies were named after the spa town of Bad Ischl, and are a bite of imperial indulgence. They were created in honor of Emperor Franz Joseph, and the recipe hasn’t changed that much. These decadent treats feature two layers of buttery shortbread, filled with jam, and coated in rich chocolate.
Bad Ischl was once a summer retreat of Austrian royalty, and if you pass by, don’t miss their Ishler cookies! Go to Café Zauner where this classic treat was first baked, and have a cookie with a cup of coffee, you won’t regret it!
