The Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa is famous for the Leaning Tower, which began tilting during construction in the 12th century due to unstable foundation soil. Despite its famous tilt, the tower has survived numerous restorations and remains one of the most iconic architectural wonders in the world.
But did you know that the Tower also played a key role in Galileo Galilei’s groundbreaking experiments?
Legend has it that Galileo, a native of Pisa, conducted his famous tests on the law of falling bodies from the top of the tower. The square’s cathedral also inspired his discovery of pendulum motion when he observed a swinging lamp inside.
Today, the Piazza dei Miracoli is a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracting millions of visitors each year for its stunning architecture and historical significance. 📜🔬
