Ebru, or Turkish marbling, is an enchanting art form that involves floating colors on water to create intricate patterns.
Dating back to the Ottoman Empire, ebru uses natural pigments mixed with water and oil, which are then carefully combed or swirled into fascinating designs.
Artists use a special brush made from rose branches and horsehair to apply the paint, which is absorbed onto paper, capturing the delicate patterns. Ebru patterns often resemble flowers, leaves, and organic forms, making each piece unique.
Today, this centuries-old technique is UNESCO-recognized and widely celebrated as a form of cultural heritage in Turkey, admired for its balance of spontaneity and skill.
