Giuseppe Calì, born in Valletta in 1846, was a prolific artist whose works are prominent in numerous Maltese churches. Calì's Apotheosis of St. Francis is a monumental painting located in the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Valletta, Malta. This work is recognized as one of Calì's largest and most significant contributions to Maltese ecclesiastical art.
Completed in the early 20th century, the painting decorates the church’s vault, depicting the glorification of St. Francis ascending to heaven, surrounded by angels and other celestial figures. The composition showcases Calì's mastery in handling large-scale works and his ability to convey spiritual themes with dramatic intensity.
