Those stunning blue-and-white tiles in Istanbul’s mosques and palaces are İznik tiles—the pinnacle of Ottoman ceramic art.
Created in the small town of İznik in the 15th and 16th centuries, these tiles are famous for their rich colors, and stunning floral motifs inspired by nature.
Each tile was hand-painted and fired to perfection, combining techniques and influences from Islamic art, Persian motifs, and even Chinese porcelain. These vibrant ceramics adorned iconic structures like the Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace, showcasing Ottoman wealth and artistic mastery.
Today, İznik tiles are cherished symbols of Turkish heritage, found in everything from local souvenirs to high-end art collections.
