Altamira Cave, in northern Spain, is home to some of the world’s oldest known cave paintings, dating back 36,000 years. These vibrant images of bison, horses, and deer were created by prehistoric artists using natural pigments, showcasing remarkable creativity and skill.
Often called the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistoric Art,” this UNESCO listed site provides a peek into the lives and minds of our ancient ancestors. To preserve the original site, visitors can explore a detailed replica at the nearby museum.
