The Semmering Railway, completed in 1854, is an engineering marvel that winds through the breathtaking Austrian Alps. Recognized as the world’s first true mountain railway and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it set new standards for rail construction with 14 tunnels, 16 viaducts, over 100 stone arch bridges and 11 small iron bridges – everything blends seamlessly into the landscape.
This 41 km long railway offers passengers wonderful views of alpine valleys and historic towns, so it’s a great destination for history buffs and train enthusiasts alike.

And one last thing - this publication will stay free forever, but if you feel I deserve a cup of matcha 🍵 here and there, then please buy me some - the next drink’s on me! ☕
So interesting. I'd love to book a ride on that train. Thanks for sharing, Gabi!
