Beneath the bustling streets of Istanbul, since the 6th century, there has been an ancient underground water reservoir, a bit hidden – the majestic Basilica Cistern.
The Cistern was built during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, and once supplied water to the Great Palace of Constantinople. It is well known for its forest of 336 marble columns and eerie ambience, while its design combines beauty with engineering brilliance. Among the columns, you’ll find two mysterious Medusa heads placed as bases, whose origins and purpose remain a mystery.
Hollywood discovered the Cistern long ago, so even James Bond and Robert Langdon roamed through its forest of columns. And myself in 2023 😊

And one last thing - this publication will stay free forever, but if you feel I deserve a cup of matcha 🍵 here and there, then please buy me some - the next drink’s on me! ☕
that's absolutely gorgeous and what a discovery!
Did you know that actually there's more water inside the Earth than there is on it!
I say that because they talk about water shortages and all of that but it's not the truth they could tap right into the Earth and we'd have all the water we'd ever need.
In these poor countries that are having problems or where hurricanes/disasters hit and people still don't have water 12 weeks later and look at the fires out in California, they can tap right into the water in the Earth and take care of all these issues.... but they don't.
And on a positive note, it is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for the information.
